Deadly I-80 Rollover: Ohio Truck Driver Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Mercer County

A 66-year-old Ohio man was killed Wednesday morning after a multi-vehicle crash involving tractor-trailers caused his truck to leave Interstate 80 and overturn in Mercer County, authorities said.

Garry Edward Jones, 66, of New Springfield, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash, which occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. on September 30, 2026, on westbound Interstate 80 near mile marker 19 in Findley Township.

The crash happened near the Interstate 79 interchange, according to information from the Mercer County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities said Jones was operating a tractor-trailer when his vehicle was struck by another vehicle. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to leave the roadway and roll over laterally, resulting in fatal injuries.

Jones suffered blunt force injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Mercer County Coroner’s Office has officially classified the manner of death as homicide. In this context, the classification refers to a death resulting from the actions of another person and does not, by itself, indicate that criminal charges have been filed.

The Pennsylvania State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, including the events that led up to the impact.

According to the information provided, PennDOT later reopened the westbound lanes that afternoon, allowing traffic to resume through the area.
