FORT PIERCE, Fla. — A tragic discovery along the Fort Pierce waterfront Tuesday morning has left family, friends, and community members searching for answers after the body of 33-year-old Sunkiss Berries was found in the water near the Turn Basin area.
According to the Fort Pierce Police Department, the woman’s body was located shortly before 8 a.m. between the north and south bridges in Fort Pierce. Authorities said personnel from Sea Tow spotted the body in the water and immediately alerted emergency responders. Multiple agencies, including the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and the St. Lucie County Fire District, responded to the scene.
Officials confirmed the woman was pronounced dead at the location. Her body was later recovered at the Museum Pointe Park boat ramp, where the investigation was handed over to Fort Pierce Police detectives. She was identified as 33-year-old Sunkiss Berries, as investigators began working to reconstruct the timeline leading up to her death.
Detectives also revealed that an officer with the Fort Pierce Police Department had encountered Berries the day before during a service call at Jaycee Park. While details of that interaction have not been released, investigators say it is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
At this time, police report no immediate signs of trauma or obvious evidence of foul play. However, officials stressed that the case remains active pending results from the medical examiner’s office, which will determine the official cause and manner of death.
