Motorcyclist Drake Britton Dies After Collision With Pickup Towing Horse Trailer Near Colbert

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane community is mourning the tragic loss of Drake Britton, who died Tuesday afternoon following a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck towing a horse trailer on U.S. Route 2 south of Colbert, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Authorities said the crash occurred around noon near Carney Road at milepost 299 along Highway 2. Investigators reported the collision involved a motorcycle and a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene after reports of severe injuries.

Responding agencies included local emergency personnel and a LifeFlight helicopter, which was requested due to the severity of the crash. Despite lifesaving efforts, officials confirmed that the motorcyclist, identified as Drake Britton, died from injuries sustained in the collision.

The crash caused significant traffic disruptions as authorities closed portions of the highway to allow investigators to process the scene. Northbound lanes of Highway 2 south of Colbert remained closed for an extended period while troopers documented evidence and worked to determine how the crash occurred. One direction of traffic was later reopened.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes due to heavy congestion and ongoing closures linked to the fatal incident. Investigators spent several hours at the scene gathering evidence to help determine the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
