The Merkel, Texas community is mourning the tragic loss of Steven Greg Anderson, 62, who was killed Monday afternoon in a devastating two-vehicle crash just east of town. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and neighbors heartbroken as they grieve the loss of a man remembered for his kindness, strength, and steady presence.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened around 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Wimberly Road and FM Road 1235, approximately three miles east of Merkel. Investigators said Anderson was driving a 2011 Ford F-150 eastbound on FM 1235 when a 2018 Toyota Camry, driven by a 19-year-old man from Abilene, allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign before entering the intersection.
The impact was severe, and authorities reported that Anderson was ejected from the truck. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency crews, he succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m. by Taylor County Justice of the Peace Robert Jones. The driver of the Camry reportedly suffered minor injuries and declined medical transport.
