Tragic Loss in Jackson: Mississippi Man Dies After Suffering Severe Injury at Former Elementary School

A Mississippi family is mourning the loss of a 38-year-old man who died after suffering a severe injury at a former elementary school in Jackson, according to his family and local officials.
The incident happened Sunday at the former Lake Elementary School, where Jackson Public Schools district law enforcement officers responded after receiving a report of a seriously injured man.
When officers arrived, they found David Bridges, 38, suffering from severe injuries. He was later pronounced dead.
According to Bridges’ family, he had punched through a window, causing broken glass to inflict a devastating injury. His family said the glass severed a major artery, resulting in significant blood loss.
Bridges’ loved ones also said he had been dealing with grief in the period leading up to the incident. They believe his emotional struggles may have played a role, although authorities have not publicly established a motive or officially confirmed that explanation.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, family members and friends gathered Monday afternoon just a few blocks from the building to remember Bridges and reflect on the life he shared with those around him.
One loved one, Calesha Esco, described Bridges as outspoken, respectful and loving, while acknowledging that, like everyone, he had his flaws.
โHe was a great person, a genuinely good person,โ Esco said.
The Hinds County Coroner’s Office was contacted for additional information regarding the circumstances surrounding Bridges’ death.
Jackson Public Schools said the building sustained only minor damage during the incident. Officials said the area was secured and cleaned, and normal operations continued Monday.
Although the building previously served as an elementary school, it is now used by Jackson Public Schools for its Re-Engaging for All to Progress (REAP) Program. The program provides an alternative pathway to a high school diploma for students who are at risk of dropping out.
For Bridges’ family, however, the building has now become the location of a heartbreaking loss.
As loved ones continue to grieve, they are remembering David not simply for the circumstances surrounding his death, but for the person they knewโa man whose personality, relationships and presence left an impression on those closest to him.
His family and friends now face the difficult days ahead, carrying his memory with them while seeking answers about the circumstances that led to his tragic death.
