Lanett Man, 51, Killed in Late-Night Shooting on North 10th Avenue

The Lanett Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of Tommy Boyd Jr., 51, Tuesday night in Lanett, Alabama.

Authorities said officers and EMS were dispatched to the 600 block of North 10th Avenue at approximately 9:21 p.m. on May 12, 2026, after receiving reports of gunshots and a person lying in the roadway.

When first responders arrived, they found Boyd suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel immediately provided life-saving aid at the scene. Despite their efforts, Boyd succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Chambers County Coroner’s Office.

Officials confirmed that Boyd’s body has been transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, where an autopsy will be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Lanett Police Department said the case remains active and ongoing. At this time, investigators have not released any information regarding a suspect or possible motive.

Authorities remained on scene for several hours Tuesday night collecting evidence, documenting the area, and speaking with witnesses as they worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting.

Residents in the neighborhood reported a heavy police presence following the incident as officers continued their investigation into the shooting.
