Recent Graduate Toryann McFarlane Dies in Tragic Crash on Interstate 95

The Riviera Beach community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Toryann McFarlane, a 16-year-old recent high school graduate who was killed in a tragic multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 early Wednesday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened shortly after midnight in the northbound lanes of I-95 near the Blue Heron Boulevard exit. Investigators said McFarlane was driving a Nissan Altima when she lost control of the vehicle for reasons still under investigation. The car traveled onto the outside shoulder, struck a guardrail and concrete barrier, and then re-entered the roadway.

Troopers said the Altima became disabled and came to rest in the outside center lane. Authorities reported that McFarlane exited the vehicle and was leaning into the back-seat area when a BMW traveling northbound struck the right side of the stopped car. The impact threw the teenager onto the outside shoulder, where she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the crash, the BMW continued forward and struck a concrete wall before stopping along the shoulder and outside lane. A third vehicle also became involved after attempting to avoid the wreckage but collided with the disabled Altima.

A 21-year-old man was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, while another driver was not injured.

The crash forced the closure of all northbound lanes of I-95 for several hours as troopers investigated and cleared debris.

McFarlane’s death has shaken loved ones even more deeply, as she had just graduated from Inlet Grove Community High School only two days earlier. Friends described her as caring, supportive, and always full of positive energy. Close friend J’Ziyiah Black said the two had been close since freshman year and recalled Toryann’s joyful smile during graduation.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues investigating what caused McFarlane to lose control of the vehicle.
